We have 160 sleepers to build the retaining walls and steps and have moved them to the bottom of the garden. As these sleepers weigh approximately 100 Kg each that was no easy task!

We have also brought down some of the dirt from the excavating of the house and will pack this down and let settle before we cover with some top soil.

Next we rented a large post hole borer from Fosseway Hire and drilled some holes about 1 meter deep and concreted in some sleepers on end for support. Then started building the wall by staggering the sleepers (like brick laying). We used large nails to hold the sleepers in place until we backfilled the area.
