We notched the post so part of it sits on the deck and part of it sticks through and is bolted to the support frame underneath.


Starting on the deck railing - we have notched out the post and cut the rail to create a mortice and tenon joint.

 

 

Setting the top and bottom rails.
It is important at this stage to work out the spindle measurements because you dont want to end up with your end spindle too close to the post.
Once the spindles are correctly spaced fasten the spacers between the spindles.
Using a router to notch the timbers for the stairs.
Cutting the decking boards to be used on the stairs.
